Delhi's tourism landscape could soon receive a spiritual boost with the introduction of a dedicated temple tourism circuit designed to connect some of the city's most revered places of worship. The initiative, being planned by the Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC), aims to provide devotees and tourists with a seamless way to explore the capital's rich religious heritage.
Under the proposed plan, visitors will be able to travel between prominent temples on specially operated buses that follow a fixed spiritual route. Authorities believe the project will help showcase a side of Delhi that often remains overshadowed by the city's famous monuments and Mughal-era landmarks.
A route connecting Delhi's iconic temples
According to News 18, the proposed circuit is expected to cover several well-known religious destinations, including Swaminarayan Akshardham, Laxminarayan Temple, popularly known as Birla Mandir, the Lord Venkateshwara Temple, the Kali Bari Temple in Chittaranjan Park and the historic Yogmaya Temple in Mehrauli.
Officials have indicated that the route may be expanded in the future to include additional temples and religious sites depending on public interest and operational feasibility.
The service will initially begin with two buses, allowing the tourism department to gauge demand before considering expansion.

Booking through the Dekho Mere Delhi platform
According to News 18, tourists will be able to reserve seats through the government's existing tourism platform, which operates under the "Dekho Mere Delhi" initiative. The new spiritual circuit is expected to be integrated into the platform once operational.
The project is currently undergoing the tendering process. Due to route limitations and infrastructure considerations, smaller buses are likely to be deployed instead of larger tourist coaches.
Officials believe the organised format will help both residents and visitors cover multiple religious destinations in a single day without the hassle of arranging separate transportation.

Expanding Delhi's tourism identity
According to News 18, the proposed spiritual circuit forms part of a broader effort to diversify Delhi's tourism offerings. Authorities are increasingly looking beyond traditional heritage attractions and exploring new themes that highlight the city's cultural and religious diversity.
As part of these efforts, the tourism department is also planning a workshop involving spiritual leaders and organisations from across the country at Akshardham later this month. Prominent spiritual figures, including Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Sadhguru, are expected to participate.
The temple circuit will complement the heritage-focused hop-on, hop-off sightseeing buses launched earlier this year, creating a more comprehensive tourism experience for visitors seeking to explore different dimensions of the national capital.
