Delhi to see cloudy skies as IMD warns of heavy rain in Northeast

Several eastern and northeastern states are likely to witness rain and thunderstorms, while Delhi is expected to remain dry with partial cloud cover.

India is expected to see a mix of different kinds of weather on Tuesday, with high chances of rain and thunderstorm activities in the eastern and northeastern parts of the country, while most parts of northwest and central India are likely to witness stable and dry conditions, according to a statement by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heavy rain alert in Northeast and Sub-Himalayan regions

Heavy rain is very likely to occur in isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and West Bengal and Sikkim, while thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph are also likely to occur in these places. Hailstorms are also likely to occur in isolated places, especially over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, which might cause local disturbances.

The India Meteorological Department has also issued a warning of thundersqualls over West Bengal and Sikkim, with wind speeds of 50 to 60 kmph and gusts reaching 70 kmph, which might cause temporary damage to crops, weak structures, and tree branches, and might also affect visibility and transportation in those places.

Thunderstorm activity to continue in eastern states

Thunderstorms are expected to continue in the Northeast states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, along with parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, during the next few days. There may be frequent lightning and gusty winds during these thunderstorms.

In the eastern part of India, states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal may witness isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning. The wind speed during the thunderstorms may be between 30 and 50 kmph.

Light activity in central and southern regions

Central and peninsular India may experience a moderate level of weather activity. Scattered thunderstorms with lightning are expected in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are also expected in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Rayalaseema.

On the other hand, hot and humid weather is expected in Kerala and Mahe, as well as in the coastal areas of Konkan and Goa.

Stable conditions in northwest, Delhi to remain partly cloudy

Northwest India is expected to be dry with a rise in maximum temperature by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the next few days.

The weather in Delhi is expected to be partly cloudy on Tuesday. The maximum temperature may vary from 30 to 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may vary from 15 to 17 degrees Celsius. The winds may be northwest at 5 to 10 kmph and may touch a high of 20 kmph. No rain is expected in the capital city.
