Himachal Pradesh bus plunges 300 metres into gorge in Sirmaur; 8 dead

A passenger bus travelling from Shimla to Kupbhir plunged nearly 300 metres into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, killing at least eight people and injuring dozens. Rescue operations are ongoing.

A horrific accident occurred in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. A passenger bus rolled down into a gorge. The incident took place in the Renukaji area of Sirmaur. It has been learned that the bus was traveling from Shimla towards Kupbhir. At that time, it lost control and rolled down 300 meters into the gorge. There were 30 to 35 passengers on the bus at the time. They have been seriously injured. At least eight people have died.

Local residents lead rescue efforts

Preliminary reports indicate that the road at the accident site was quite narrow. The bus lost control before rolling down into the gorge. Sirmaur district Police Superintendent Nishchit Singh Negi said that so far eight deaths have been reported in this bus accident. This number may increase. There were 30 to 35 people on the bus. Police have rescued the injured and taken them to the hospital.

According to police sources, locals were the first to come forward for rescue operations. They informed the police. After that, disaster management forces arrived there along with the police. The injured were rushed to the local hospital. Several of them are in critical condition.
