Winters are far from being over in Bengal, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said thatthe cold weather will continue to persist till Makar Sankranti. Despite minor fluctuations in the temperatures, there will be a chill, thick fog, and cold day conditions.
After a temporary spike over the last two days, the minimum temperature in Kolkata again fell on Friday night. However, it is expected to continue this pattern in the coming days. The minimum temperature in Kolkata is expected to stay between 10° and 13°C, which is lower compared to normal levels. Simultaneously, day and night temperatures are expected to remain low for four days in a row, as there is less chance of a change in temperature in the coming week.

Fog and ‘real feel’ cold across South Bengal
As per the weather office, dense fog may form in the early morning in different districts of South Bengal. Hooghly, North & South 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, and Nadia districts may have ‘real feel’ temperatures reduced due to strong northerly wind gusts. Although it would remain chilly with fog in the mornings, the sky would remain clear. The weather would remain dry with no chance of any rain.
A special fog warning has been put out for the devotees of Gangasagar, with expected disruptions in Kakdwip-Kachuberia ferry services because of reduced visibility.
Cold spell continues in North Bengal
The chilling weather is also expected to continue in North Bengal. Cooch Behar and both Dinajpur districts may experience ‘real’ temperature levels dropping below actual values. Dense fog alerts have been given for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and North Dinajpur districts, which can face poor visibility in the mornings. The Meteorological Department has forecast that the ongoing chilling weather in these regions may continue for weeks.

While Bengal remains dry, heavy rain is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal because of a very deep low-pressure system. A cold wave alert has been sounded in Delhi, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan because of the cold weather conditions being experienced in some parts of the country.
