With parts of the Middle East airspace thrown into uncertainty, India has activated a coordinated evacuation and stabilisation plan to bring home stranded passengers. Special relief flights operated by leading carriers touched down on Tuesday morning, marking the first visible step in what officials describe as a carefully calibrated response to a rapidly evolving situation.
Relief flights and rerouted operations
According to News18, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said it is closely monitoring developments in the region and assessing their impact on international operations. As tensions disrupt normal flight paths, airlines have been forced to adjust schedules and reroute aircraft to avoid restricted airspace.
On Tuesday, special flights operated by IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet brought back stranded passengers from Dubai. Authorities confirmed that additional aircraft and crew repositioning efforts are underway to restore operational stability at the earliest.
IndiGo has scheduled 10 special relief flights from Jeddah to India on March 3, subject to necessary approvals and prevailing airspace conditions. The airline is coordinating with the Consulate General of India in Jeddah to streamline passenger facilitation. Officials added that long-haul and ultra-long-haul services are gradually resuming via alternative routes, while foreign carriers are operating limited services subject to operational feasibility.

High-level monitoring and passenger support
The evolving situation was reviewed at a high-level meeting chaired by Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, with Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and senior officials in attendance. The ministry reiterated that passenger safety remains paramount. Special arrangements have been put in place to assist affected travellers, including deployment of additional capacity where required. Airlines have been advised to maintain transparent communication regarding refunds, rescheduling and other regulatory obligations. Indian missions abroad are working in tandem with aviation authorities to ensure safe and orderly travel.
Passengers have been urged to verify flight status directly with airlines before heading to airports and to rely solely on official updates.
