Today marks the fifth day that IndiGo flights from Delhi are facing constant disruptions, cancellations and delays in departure. As ticket prices rise extravagantly and flights get deferred, thousands of passengers have been left stranded.

Lack of proper planning has caused this crisis, with IndiGo having very few pilots on the tarmac at this point in time. This has led IndiGo's timeliness to nosedive. The airline issued an apology on Friday for the major disruption and promised refunds for all cancelled flights. IndiGo operates over 2,300 flights a day with more than 400 airplanes.

The government's response

A top-tier, four-member committee has been formed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to carry out an extensive review and evaluation of the factors that have caused the recent widespread disruptions at IndiGo, reported NDTV.

The response from the minister

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu told ANI, "We have formed a committee which will inquire into all this so that they can establish where things went wrong and who did it wrong. We are going to take necessary action on that also. This thing shouldn't be left unattended. We are taking strict action on this, so that whoever was responsible into this needs to pay for it."

The minister said that the union government's foremost focus is the reinstatement of normalcy and offer full support to all passengers affected by delays and cancellations across IndiGo's domestic network.
