As counting trends pointed to a landmark victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded on X, calling the outcome a triumph of public will.
“The Lotus blooms in West Bengal,” the Prime Minister wrote on Monday evening. “The 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections will be remembered forever. People's power has prevailed and BJP's politics of good governance has triumphed. I bow to each and every person of West Bengal.”
His remarks came at a time when the party was steadily widening its lead, indicating a major political shift in a state long dominated by the Trinamool Congress.
