Early counting trends in Tamil Nadu on Monday indicate a major shift in the state's political landscape, with actor-politician Vijay's party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, taking a strong lead. As per initial figures after the opening of EVMs, TVK is ahead in 83 seats.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is leading in 58 seats, while the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is trailing with leads in 34 seats. Tamil Nadu has a total of 234 assembly seats, and a party needs 118 seats to form the government.

TVK surge reshapes early trends

From the beginning of counting, TVK candidates have taken early leads in multiple constituencies. The party has outperformed both DMK and AIADMK in several regions, indicating a possible shift in voter preference.

A senior TVK leader, Felix Gerald, said, "The party leadership is confident. There is a belief that a government can be formed without external support. These trends reflect a desire for change among the people."

If the trend continues, it could mark a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, where traditional parties have dominated for decades.

Key contests and leadership battle

In a notable development, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is trailing in the Kolathur constituency after three rounds of counting. TVK candidate V. S. Babu has taken the lead in that seat.

Stalin has previously won Kolathur in the 2011, 2016 and 2021 assembly elections. His current position has added to the significance of the early trends.

Counting is still underway, and these figures are preliminary. However, the early leads suggest a competitive electoral contest, with TVK emerging as a strong contender in the initial phase of results.
