Manipur security forces arrest alleged KKYL member; mobile phones and SIM cards seized

Security forces conduct coordinated operations in Manipur, make multiple arrests and recover explosives.

Security forces in Manipur carried out multiple operations across districts, arresting three alleged militants, recovering an improvised explosive device (IED), and seizing a large quantity of liquor, officials said.

Targeted operations across districts

In Thoubal district, security forces arrested an active cadre of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KKYL). The accused, identified as Khumanthem Santosh Meitei (36), alias Kanta, a resident of Heirok Part-I, Heituppokpi, was picked up on Friday from Kairembikhok Mamang Leikai Chingdum under Thoubal Police Station. A mobile phone with two SIM cards was seized from his possession.

In a separate operation in Churachandpur district, forces apprehended Lunjakai Vaiphei (20), an alleged active member of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), from Matijang village under Churachandpur Police Station. A country-made 9 mm pistol, along with three live rounds, was recovered from his possession.

Security personnel also recovered a 10-kg cylindrical IED fitted with a pressure mechanism from an area between Sijang village and Sanamahi Temple near Naga village in Lamna Kabui, Churachandpur district. The Bomb Disposal Team safely destroyed the explosive in the presence of representatives from 2 JAKLI and Churachandpur Police.

In another action, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) was arrested from his residence in Imphal West. The accused has been identified as 19-year-old Khetics Thongbam from Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were seized during the operation.

Separately, Manipur Police seized a large quantity of alcoholic beverages from the Sekmai Police Station area in Imphal West, including beer cans and multiple bottles of McDowell’s No.1, Old Monk and Shika Blue on Saturday.
