A fatal accident took place in the Mulund region of Mumbai after a section of the side parapet of the under-construction elevated Metro bridge fell on vehicles moving on the busy LBS Road. The accident claimed the life of a person while three others were injured in the incident, which involved an auto rickshaw and a car.
Incident on LBS Road
According to officials, a section of the side parapet of the upcoming Metro corridor fell on the road, causing the accident. The incident led to chaos on the road, disrupting the movement of traffic for a while. The concerned authorities later cordoned off the region to avoid any further risk and allow the rescue work to be carried out smoothly.
Rescue and emergency response
The Fire department, Police department, Metro staff, ward officials and 108 ambulance services arrived at the spot immediately and started the rescue work. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has informed that medical support is being provided to all those who were injured in the incident.
The officials further stated that the Metro project team was present at the site, coordinating relief efforts and ensuring that the building and surrounding area were secured. The efforts were undertaken in coordination with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and disaster management agencies.
Casualties and injuries
The deceased has been identified as Ramdhan Yadav. Among those injured, Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav, aged 45, has been admitted to the intensive care unit and is reportedly in critical condition. The condition of the other two injured individuals, Mahendra Pratap Yadav, 52, and Deepa Ruhiya, 40, is reportedly stable. The officials from the disaster control wing of the BMC stated that the fallen part of the parapet was approximately 6x4.

Inquiry ordered
The MMRDA confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the actual cause of the building collapse and to assess various construction safety measures and structural stability. Even as the rescue efforts are over, it has been indicated that an inquiry will be undertaken to ascertain responsibility and prevent such occurrences in the future.
