The IPL 2026 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a major talking point after Virat Kohli and Travis Head were involved in a heated exchange during the match. The tension did not end on the field, as an awkward moment during the post-match handshake line later grabbed attention across social media.

Heated exchange during the chase

The incident took place during RCB’s challenging chase of 256 runs against Hyderabad. Kohli and Head were seen exchanging words in the middle overs as pressure mounted on Bengaluru. Kohli appeared visibly frustrated as he tried to keep his side in the contest, and the discussion between the two players quickly became intense.

Reports suggested Kohli even challenged Head during the exchange, adding more drama to an already high-pressure contest. However, the RCB batter failed to make a big impact and was dismissed for 15 runs, leaving Bengaluru struggling in the chase.

SRH dominate as tensions continue

Sunrisers Hyderabad remained in control throughout the match and eventually secured a comfortable 55-run victory. Travis Head also made an impact with the ball by dismissing RCB captain Rajat Patidar at a crucial stage of the innings.

The biggest moment, however, arrived after the game during the customary handshake line. Cameras captured Head extending his hand toward Kohli, but the former RCB captain walked past without acknowledging the gesture. The clip instantly went viral and sparked widespread debate among cricket fans.

Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan later defended Kohli’s aggressive behaviour, describing it as part of his highly competitive mindset on the field. According to Pathan, Kohli often thrives on intensity during important matches.

Despite the controversy, both RCB and SRH continue to remain strong contenders in the IPL 2026 playoff race, with attention now shifting toward the final phase of the tournament.
