The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) met on Tuesday to announce their 2026 calendar of recruitment examinations.

One of the most significant announcements made by the commission during this meeting was regarding the change of the examination dates for Assistant Professor positions (Sahayak Acharya) published in advertisement number 51. The examination will be now held on April 18 and 19 this year. Over 82,000 candidates have applied for the 910 vacant positions for Assistant Professor in government aided degree colleges of Uttar Pradesh.

Moreover, the UPESSC has further announced that the examination dates for the other 107 positions in the BEd subject area will be made available on their official website at a later time.

'Exam will be held fairly'

The Commission has assured that the competency test will be held fairly and with the utmost commitment to strict security procedures, complete transparency and integrity. Admit cards and information regarding examination centres will be available on the Commission's website in sufficient time before the examination takes place.

Why was original exam revoked?

This announcement has put an end to months of uncertainty which was looming after the original exam, held on April 16 and 17, 2025, was cancelled.

On April 20, the examination was cancelled after the arrest of three individuals by the UP Special Task Force (STF). The three individuals arrested were Baijnath Paul, an Assistant Professor at Lal Bahadur Shastri Degree College in Gonda, his brother Vinay Kumar and Ayodhya resident Mahboob Ali, who is a confidential aide to the former chairman of the Commission.

The STF investigation revealed that these three men were part of a group that used unethically secret means to sell copies of the question papers for huge amounts of money. Subsequently, the Uttar Pradesh government cancelled the examination on January 7, 2026, after the Chief Minister's directives.

Other key dates announced

Apart from the Assistant Professor exam, dates for other key recruitment exams have also been announced by the commission. These include the examination for the post-graduate teacher recruitment in government-aided secondary schools, which will be held on May 9-10, followed by the examination for trained graduate teachers in government-aided secondary schools, which has been scheduled for June 3-4.

Additionally, the UP TET will be held on July 2-4, 2026.
