As every year, Bengalis are flocking to Darjeeling ahead of Christmas. The hills are bustling with tourists, and the view of Kanchenjunga is clear almost every day. Not only that, there's also a chance of snowfall around December 25. But if you're hoping to see snow, just relying on Darjeeling won't be enough. There are three nearby spots where snow is almost guaranteed, with snowfall being a bonus.

Sandakphu

But braving the cold at 3,636 meters is quite a challenge. But if you like to see snow, Sandakphu is the place to visit. Even snowfall can be experienced here. Along with Kanchenjunga, you will get to see Mount Everest, Makalu, and Lhotse. The distance from Darjeeling to Manebhanjan is about 26 kilometres. From Manebhanjan, you can get a Land Rover to Sandakphu. On the way, you may also stay for a night or two in Tumling, where you will still find snow.

Meghma

Meghma is another option for snow viewing if the height of Sandakphu seems too much to handle. Lying at an altitude of approximately 2600 meters, this village atop a hill falls on the border of the Singalila National Park. Late December or January are times when snowfall is possible in these areas. It is about 33 kilometres from Darjeeling and takes nearly one and half to two hours to reach Meghma. Kanchenjunga is also seen from here.
