Richard II – One of England’s kings, born (1367)

Richard II was born in 1367 and became king of England in 1377. His was a life of turmoil that included the Peasants' Revolt of 1381 and ended with his abdication as king in 1399, when he handed over the throne to his cousin, Henry Bolingbroke, who became Henry IV.

FDR’s ‘Four Freedoms’ speech (1941)

On January 6, 1941, US President Franklin D Roosevelt weaved a spell with his historic speech on the State of the Union address, introducing the concept of Four Freedoms-freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. The speech framed America's moral position during World War II and later influenced the global human rights discourse.

Rowan Atkinson is born (1955)

British actor and comedian Rowan Atkinson, also famous for playing Mr Bean, was born on January 6, 1955. His physical comedy repertoire reached such a level that it broke language barriers, and he became one of the most identifiable entertainers in the global arena.

A.R. Rahman: A global music icon born (1967)

A.R. Rahman, born January 6, 1967, in Madras, is a celebrated composer and singer, known as the “Mozart of Madras,” whose breakthrough Roja (1992) earned him national awards and later global acclaim, including two Oscars, a Golden Globe, two Grammys, and India’s Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.

Schoolhouse Rock! – Iconic educational TV debut on ABC (1973)

Schoolhouse Rock! debuted on ABC during the peak of Saturday morning kids’ TV and became one of the most successful educational programs in U.S. history.

Epiphany observed across Christian traditions

January 6 is also widely celebrated as Epiphany, which marks the visit to the infant Jesus by the Three Wise Men. This day in many cultures predominantly echoes rituals, processions, and festive foods-the deep intertwining of faith and tradition.
