Delhi Capitals have set a new bar in the league by reaching the finals for the fourth consecutive time. Despite having a bad patch in the first half of the tournament, Delhi came back like never before. In the IPL we saw teams changing their fortune with extraordinary performances. Delhi lost their first three matches from that to becoming finalist is nothing less than a script of a thriller.

As the fourth edition of WPL is nearing its end, Delhi will surely look forward to winning its maiden trophy defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru. It will be a tussle of consistency and fans can expect a great evening full of surprises.

What worked for Delhi over the years?

Delhi Capitals had remained a team that did not rely on just one player, Meg Lanning in the first three years and Jemimah Rodrigues now, both captains have a strong core who performed over the years for them. Shafali Verma’s clutch, Jemi’s game awareness and Meg Lanning’s experience worked every year. This year they released Meg Lanning and handed captaincy to the Indian superstar but if we roll back the stats page of WPL, we find a few names in common.

Shafali Verma, Meg Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues consistently scored runs for them while, in bowling, Marizanne Kapp, Radha Yadav, and Shikha Pandey helped them throughout the years.

It is the first time that the Capitals failed to finish the league at the top. This year, they took time to get the perfect combination and once it worked their confidence itself added value to their performance.

Is Delhi the CSK of WPL?

Previously, CSK got the synonym of consistency for their presence in the playoffs. In WPL Delhi is replicating the same. If Delhi lifts the trophy this year, it will tell the time but repeating the story every year will be a point of talk for the upcoming generation.
