Back to back trophies on the line for RCB? How the weather can help them

The IPL 2026 is staged for its final showdown on Sunday at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Despite the excitement, there is still a fear among cricket fans about the rainy weather on that day.

However, the BCCI has prepared a specific rule to let the fans rejoice about the final, without worrying for the weather.

What is the new rule?

According to the specified rule, if the game is left unplayed on the scheduled date due to heavy rain, the match will be postponed directly to the next day, which is accredited as reserved day. The 'reserved day' is only ruled for the final, and has no permission to impact in any of the matches in the playoff round.

The game settings regarding the weather

The IPL officials are on the order to ensure the completion of final match on the scheduled date with all their best efforts. The match directors have also made a special rule of adding 120 minutes or up to 2 hours of 'buffer time' beyond the scheduled time to make the field playable after the weather clears.

There is also another rule which describes of shortening the match by reducing the number of overs to a minimum of 5-overs for each team. If less than 5 overs are played, the match will be considered invalid.

If the match spills to tie-breaker even after the reduced overs are played, the help of 'super over' will be taken to choose the champion team.

Failing of all these rules prescribed for the scheduled date, the match will be postponed for the reserved day.

The rule of points

The biggest and the final rule suggests that if the reserved day results to scoreless match due to the continuation of the nature calamity, the team that finished at the top of the points table in the league stage will be awarded the champions of IPL 2026.

So, for RCB being at the top of the table, the rules will make a profitable outcome ahead of the weather. Whereas GT must perform well in the finals despite the rain to lift the trophy.
