The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has ruled out disciplinary action against young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi following his on-field altercation with a Sri Lanka A player during the Tri-Nation Series match in Dambulla.

The incident occurred after India A suffered a Super Over defeat against Sri Lanka A on Monday, their second consecutive loss in the tournament. As Sri Lankan players celebrated the victory, Sooryavanshi became involved in a heated exchange that escalated into a brief physical confrontation before teammates and officials intervened.

Speaking to Sportstar, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board would not take any immediate action against the youngster.

"We will let our players concentrate on the tournament and they should not be distracted by any collateral issues," Saikia said.

ICC code of conduct comes into focus

The altercation sparked discussion over possible consequences under the ICC Code of Conduct, which prohibits inappropriate physical contact during international matches. Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct states that players can be penalised for deliberate, reckless or negligent physical contact with another player, umpire, match official or any other individual during a match.

The rule also requires officials to consider factors such as intent, force used, resulting injury and the overall context before determining the severity of an offence.

While the incident drew widespread attention on social media, there has been no indication of any formal complaint or disciplinary proceeding against Sooryavanshi at this stage.

Focus remains on performance

The 15-year-old entered the Tri-Nation Series after an impressive IPL campaign and was expected to play a key role for India A. However, he has struggled to convert promising starts into substantial scores, registering 14, 44 and 21 in his three innings so far.

India A will now look to bounce back in the remainder of the tournament as they continue their campaign against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. The latest clarification from the BCCI is expected to put an end to speculation over any internal disciplinary measures, with the board making it clear that the focus remains firmly on cricket.
