Every IPL franchise entered the 2026 auction with a purse of Rs 120 crore, but a remarkably balanced matchday squad can be assembled for just Rs 39.85 crore — nearly one-third of the available budget.

The 12-player unit features Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Prabhsimran Singh, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (captain), Sameer Rizvi, Donovan Ferreira, Krunal Pandya, Jamie Overton, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Eshan Malinga, Kartik Tyagi and Prince Yadav.

The side offers a complete IPL structure with explosive opening options, a reliable wicketkeeper, middle-order firepower, multiple all-rounders and a six-man bowling attack through the Impact Player rule.

A powerful top order built on value

The foundation of the team is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, arguably the biggest bargain of IPL 2026. Bought for just Rs 1.10 crore, the teenage sensation amassed 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.31, delivering elite production at a fraction of the cost of most marquee stars.

Alongside him is Prabhsimran Singh, who solves two key requirements simultaneously. The wicketkeeper-opener scored 510 runs at a strike rate of 168.87 and provides stability at the top while filling the specialist keeping role.

Devdutt Padikkal slots in at No. 3 after a season that yielded 464 runs at a strike rate of 168.72. His ability to balance aggression with control makes him an ideal bridge between the openers and the middle order.

Patidar leads a dynamic middle order

Rajat Patidar captains the side and anchors the batting unit. His 501-run campaign came at a remarkable strike rate of 193.43, underlining his value as both a leader and a match-winner.

Sameer Rizvi adds flexibility at No. 5, while Donovan Ferreira provides finishing power. Ferreira’s ability to accelerate in the final overs gives the lineup additional firepower without significantly increasing the auction spend.

Krunal Pandya and Jamie Overton strengthen both departments, offering batting depth and bowling variety.

A six-bowler attack through the Impact Player rule

The bowling unit is led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, whose new-ball expertise and death-over control remain invaluable. He is supported by Eshan Malinga, Kartik Tyagi, Jamie Overton and Krunal Pandya.

Prince Yadav plays a crucial tactical role. When defending a total, he starts in the XI to create a six-bowler attack alongside Bhuvneshwar, Malinga, Kartik, Overton and Krunal. When chasing, Sameer Rizvi replaces Prince as the Impact Player, restoring batting depth.

The squad uses only three overseas players, Ferreira, Overton and Malinga — comfortably fitting within IPL regulations.

For less than Rs 40 crore, this team delivers everything a franchise seeks: explosive openers, a specialist wicketkeeper, a proven captain, all-round depth and a versatile bowling attack. While IPL teams spent up to Rs 120 crore building their squads, this carefully constructed unit shows that smart recruitment can still create a genuine title contender at a fraction of the cost.
