ICC Women’s Champions Trophy brought forward from June-July to February 2027

T20 event shifted to next year, clashes with New Zealand’s Australia tour.

On Monday, following the ICC board meeting held on Sunday at Ahmedabad, ICC announced its decision regarding the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy. The decision was made regarding preponing the tournament to February, which was to be held in June-July 2027. While there is no specified reason from ICC on why such a change of schedule was made.

Speaking to news18, Jay Shah said, “Our discussions in Ahmedabad have reinforced the ICC’s commitment to governance, administration and the growth of cricket globally. From women’s cricket and emerging nations to the management of franchise competitions, today’s discussions and decisions aim to ensure that cricket remains fair, competitive and exciting for fans worldwide.”

Talking about New Zealand’s tour of Australia, partial clash will occur due to this tournament. Tour was scheduled from February 27 to March 7 by Oceanic nations.

Cricket Australia is looking at alternate options to fix the tournament and the tour of these nations after being told about this decision, ESPNcricinfo reported.

ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy

On the lines of the aforementioned statement, ICC, the world governing body, decided that ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy 2026 will be contested by 10 teams comprising 5 Full Members and 5 Associate Members.

Selected teams will be from current ICC T20I rankings or based on previous participation in T20 WC.

Road to ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2028 Qualification

It is decided at the meeting that India will be playing all its matches in the Pakistan-hosted ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2028 at a neutral venue. Total of 12 teams will participate in this tournament, wherein 10 teams would qualify directly from top eight in the 2026 Women’s T20 WC, the host nation (if already qualified), and top two teams in ICC T20I ranking (as on July 6, 2026). Two teams would be finalised through a 10-team global qualifier tournament.
