Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has once again stirred controversy with his remarks on India’s T20 World Cup campaign. After earlier predicting that India would not even reach the semifinals, Amir has now claimed that the Men in Blue will fail to make the final.

India proved him wrong in the previous round with a commanding five-wicket victory over West Indies in their virtual quarterfinal at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday. Riding on Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 97, India chased down a daunting 196 to book a semifinal berth in style.

However, Amir remains unconvinced.

“India complete cricket nahi khel rha. India final nahi khelega (India are not playing complete cricket. India will not play the final),” he said.

Participating in a Pakistani TV show, this former Pakistani pacer said, "India is not playing good quality cricket. They cannot play the final. My analysis about the semi-final was correct. But Samson played well. However, India still hasn't been able to play 'complete cricket'. No bowler except Bumrah is in form. Look at the batting side, they are losing wickets quickly in every match. There will be tough competition against England in the semi-final. But I am certain, India will not play in the final."

Samson’s masterclass powers record chase

After winning the toss, India opted to bowl first. West Indies got off to a steady start with Roston Chase (40 off 25) and captain Shai Hope (32 off 33) putting on 68 runs for the opening wicket. Despite slipping to 119/4 in 14.1 overs, a late onslaught from Jason Holder (37* off 22) and Rovman Powell (34* off 19) propelled them to 195/4 in 20 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah (2/36) was India’s standout bowler, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Hardik Pandya picked up a wicket each.

In reply, India had an uneasy start, slipping to 41/2 inside the powerplay. Samson anchored the innings, first adding 58 runs with Suryakumar Yadav (18), before stitching crucial partnerships with Tilak Varma (27 off 15), Hardik Pandya (17) and Shivam Dube (8*). His composed 97* ensured India crossed the finish line with five wickets in hand.

What predictions did Amir make about India earlier?

Before the India-Pakistan match, Amir claimed that India would not be able to win against Pakistan. The Indian team proved him wrong by achieving a commanding victory by 61 runs. Before facing the West Indies, Amir had said, "Whether Pakistan goes to the semi or not, India will not go."

That prediction did not come true. As a result, he also faced trolling from cricket lovers. Even though his own team's fortune did not change, Amir cannot stop making predictions about India.
