Injury setback for India as Washington Sundar misses series, THIS LSG player gets his maiden call up

Washington Sundar’s rib injury rules him out of the series, with Ayush Badoni joining India amid growing World Cup concerns.

India won the first match of the ODI series, but injury concerns are growing for India. After Rishabh Pant, Tilak Varma, and now Washington Sundar have also sustained an injury. An injury row just before the T20I World Cup has grown concern for team India. For the last two years Indian T20I team has been preparing for the World Cup, and Gautam Gambhir will surely not want to go with replacement players in the World Cup.

"India all-rounder Washington Sundar reported an acute onset of discomfort in his left lower rib area while bowling during the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara, on Sunday. He will undergo further scans, following which the BCCI Medical Team will seek expert opinion," BCCI stated in a release.

Washington Sundar came to bat at number 8 in the last match, where his discomfort was visible. He only bowled for five overs in that match. Ayush Badoni joined the team as the second replacement player in the team.

Badoni, a 26-year-old Delhi all-rounder, has played 27 List A games, scoring 693 runs (including a century and five fifties) and taking 18 wickets. He has also played 56 IPL matches with Lucknow Super Giants since his debut in 2022, accumulating 963 runs and taking four wickets in his limited bowling appearances.

In the last match, India opted to bowl after Shubman Gill won the toss, but New Zealand surprised everyone by posting a strong 300, exposing India’s bowling concerns. Ravindra Jadeja struggled again, while Harshit Rana stood out with two wickets. A 117-run stand between Nicholls and Conway, followed by Daryl Mitchell’s fluent 84, anchored the innings. In reply, India searched for answers as many as runs. Gill’s composed 56 restored confidence, Virat Kohli dazzled before falling short of a century, and Shreyas Iyer added 49. KL Rahul and Harshit Rana calmly finished the chase despite Kyle Jamieson’s four wickets.
