The IPL 2026 auction will have only 350 players after the BCCI removed over 1,000 names from the long list. Even after such a big cut, the board added 35 new players to the final list. These players were not part of the original group that had registered for the auction. The BCCI made these changes before confirming the final names.
According to a Cricbuzz report, one of the big surprises is the inclusion of South African wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock. His name was added because a franchise personally requested it. De Kock recently came out of international retirement and also scored a century against India in the third ODI at Vizag. This performance could have influenced his decision to return. De Kock has kept his base price at Rs 1 crore, which is 50 percent lower than the last mega auction when he was bought by the Knight Riders for Rs 2 crore.

Apart from De Kock, other players added to the final list include Sri Lanka’s Traveen Mathew, Binura Fernando, Kusal Perera, and Dunith Wellalage. Afghanistan’s Arab Gul and the West Indies’ Akeem Auguste will take part in an IPL auction for the first time in their careers.
On the Indian side, many domestic players have also been added. These include Vishnu Solanki, Parikshit Valsangkar, Sadek Hussain, Izaz Sawariya, and 20 others who were not part of the first submission but have now been included by the BCCI.

For the auction, the process will begin with capped players. They will be grouped by role: batters first, then all-rounders, wicket-keeper batters, fast bowlers, and spin bowlers. After this round ends, the uncapped players will go through the same order of specialisation.
