Joe Root scores his maiden century in Australia in his 13-year career

Joe Root ended his long wait for scoring centuries on Australian soil.

Joe Root, one of the most prominent players in Test of England, scored his first century on Australian soil in his 13-year-long illustrious career. One of the modern-day fav four, Joe Root is now batting on 135 with Joe Archer by his side.

Root has played 30 innings on Australian soil and just got his first century in the day-night test of the Ashes. After all the talks, Joe Root finally crossed the line on Australian soil.

The 34-year-old England stalwart came to bat when England lost 2 wickets in just 5 runs. Getting a life on just 2 runs, he utilised the chance and capitalised on it and saw wickets falling from the other end.

He reached the landmark with a flick in the fine leg and then took off his helmet and sent a salute to the audience. Root had made nine fifties and scored 900 runs in Australia before, though his average of 33.33 was the lowest of any country.

This was his 40th Test century and moved him to third in the list of most centuries in a Test. He is now only behind Ricky Ponting who has 41 test centuries in his bag.

Praising the batter, Alastair Cook said,” Even Australia will have to admit he's a great now.”Root has already become the second-highest run scorer in tests, will he pass Ricky Ponting in the number of centuries it will be interesting to see.
