Sharing the news of his retirement, he wrote on Instagram, "Today, with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket. From representing Haryana to wearing the India jersey and playing in the IPL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing. A very special thank you to the Haryana Cricket Association for being the backbone of my career. And my deepest gratitude to Anirudh Sir, whose constant guidance and belief in me shaped my path in ways words cannot express. Thank you to the BCCI, my coaches, my teammates, IPL franchises, support staff and all my friends for their love and support."

He also added, "Special thanks to my wife who always handled my mood swings and anger, and supported me through everything. I look forward to serving the game in fresh ways."

Mohit Sharma’s evolution from new bowler to death specialist

The Haryana speed star earned his first recognition when in 2013 CSK bought him in the auction. He used to bowl as a new bowler and he had a very good swing in his hand. In 2014 before his T20I debut for India, he won the purple cap for CSK by taking 23 wickets. Mohit picked up 134 wickets in 120 matches in the IPL.

He later transformed himself into a death bowler at the end of his career. After a few normal seasons in IPL in 2023, Mohit Sharma emerged as a proper death bowler for the Gujarat Titans. He picked up 27 wickets and was in the contest to win the purple cap.

In the final match against CSK in 2023, Jadeja hit the bowler for two consecutive boundaries to lift the trophy for the fifth time.

In 2025, he played eight games for the Delhi Capitals and performed very poorly. In his eight games of this season, he took only 2 wickets and had an economy of 10.28. DC released him this year and following that the third-highest wicket-taker of the 2015 World Cup of the Indian team took a call on his career.
