Virat Kohli has come into the spotlight after scoring centuries in the first two matches against South Africa. Fans filled the ground in Visakhapatnam for the third ODI, hoping to see another century from his bat. However, another star cricketer, Rohit Sharma, is now in the spotlight. Opening in the third ODI, he scored 75 runs off 73 balls. In doing so, he set a new record. He secured his place in the elite list alongside Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. He became the fastest among Indian cricketers to complete 20,000 runs in international cricket.

Which elite list did Rohit secure his place in?

Rohit made his debut in ODI and T20 cricket in 2007. His Test debut came in 2013. Combining all three formats, Rohit crossed the 20,000-run mark in just 538 innings. He set a new precedent. This is the fastest among Indian cricketers. He became the fourth Indian to touch the 20,000-run milestone. However, in terms of innings, he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid.

Sachin tops the list of highest run-scorers in international cricket among Indians. He scored 34,357 runs in 782 innings. Virat is in second place. Having played 622 innings, his collection so far stands at 27,910 runs. In third place is another former Indian cricketer, Rahul Dravid. He has 24,208 runs in his bag from 605 innings. Rohit Sharma has now secured his place in this elite list.

Rohit's innings

Opening the batting, Rohit was in good rhythm from the start. Chasing a target of 271 runs, he formed a big partnership with another young opener, Yashasvi. Though he took some time initially, Rohit gradually increased the run rate. He completed his half-century in 54 balls. Eventually, he was dismissed after scoring 75 runs off 73 balls. His innings included seven boundaries and three sixes. When India's score was 155, Rohit was dismissed off Keshav Maharaj's bowling.
