Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has achieved a unique milestone after being honoured with a special Barbie doll made in her likeness.

The honour comes under a global campaign launched by Mattel ahead of International Women's Day on March 8. As part of the initiative, Mandhana has been featured in Barbie’s inaugural Dream Team, recognising women who have broken barriers and redefined excellence in their fields.

'Still processing this moment,' says Mandhana

Reacting to the honour, Smriti Mandhana shared her excitement on Instagram after seeing her journey represented through the iconic doll.

"Still processing this moment… Seeing a one-of-a-kind @Barbie doll inspired by my journey is something I never imagined growing up. Cricket has given me so much, and if my story helps even one girl believe she belongs on the field, that means everything," Mandhana said.

She further added, "Honoured to be part of Barbie’s Dream Team alongside incredible women from around the world who are breaking barriers in their own fields. When girls see what’s possible, they dream bigger."

Mattel said the doll has been specially designed to celebrate Mandhana’s achievements and will not be available for retail sale.

Mandhana joins a list of global achievers featured in the Barbie Dream Team. The group includes tennis legend Serena Williams, astronaut Kellie Gerardi, racing driver Regina Sirvent Alvarado, England footballer Chloe Kelly, singer Helene Fischer, climber Zoja Skubis and surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore; women who have created milestones in sports, science and entertainment.

Announcing the initiative, Mattel said the Dream Team was created to celebrate women who are shaping the future and inspiring the next generation.
