From last night, Jacob Bethell has captured the trends all over the world. From being a young prodigy to England’s most prominent player, one night has changed many things for him. He became the first centurion for England in the knockouts of the World Cup.

Bethell is one of the finest young players from England who made his international debut in September 2024 against Australia. Born in Barbados, he moved to England at the age of 12 and his journey in cricket began long ago, coming from a cricketing background, he became the West Indies U-15 player of the tournament in 2017.

After moving to England Bethell played age-group cricket for Warwickshire and then signed a three-year contract with them in 2021. Ian Bell had once described him as the best 17-year-old cricketer. His first breakthrough came in 2022 when he was bought by Welsh Fire in Hundred. After that the left-arm all-rounder never looked back, in 2025 he made his IPL debut for RCB and also became the youngest captain to lead England.

An innings that shaped the character of Bethell

His 105 runs in 48 balls was the first for any England batsman in knockouts. Decorating his innings with 8 fours and 7 sixes and with a strike rate of 218.75, he has not only showed temperament but also showed class. His very first shot to Varun Chakravarthy will haunt the spinner for a long time.
