The new sports bill has become sports law. As a result of this law, all sports in the country will come under the same rules, under the same umbrella. This was the plan of the Sports Ministry. But will BCCI come under the purview of this law? Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya answered this question by Mala Roy in Parliament.

Trinamool MP from Kolkata South Mala Roy had asked in the Lok Sabha whether the Government of India has any plan to establish its control over major sports bodies in the country like BCCI. It was also questioned whether the central government will intervene in the audit of these organizations in the future.

In response to this question, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that BCCI does not come under the National Sports Federation in any way. It is a voluntary body under the Societies Registration Act 1860. The purpose of this sports policy is to bring organizations under the Sports Federation under one umbrella. Since BCCI does not fall under that rule, they are not covered by it.

Coming under the new sports bill means BCCI will have to follow the rules of the National Sports Federation. Along with this, organizations that receive grants of more than one crore rupees per year will have CAG audit. Since BCCI does not take any financial assistance from the center and they are not dependent on the center, CAG audit is not applicable to them.
