FC Barcelona are already preparing contingency plans in the transfer market as the race to sign Julian Alvarez heats up. With interest mounting from top clubs across Europe, the Catalan side is reportedly considering alternative attacking options to strengthen their frontline ahead of next season.

Competition grows for Alvarez

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has acknowledged that Barcelona face stiff competition from Arsenal FC and Paris Saint-Germain in the pursuit of Alvarez. The Argentine forward is widely expected to be one of the most sought-after names in the upcoming transfer window.

With multiple elite clubs circling, Barcelona are aware that securing his signature may prove difficult, prompting them to keep alternative plans ready.

Joao Pedro emerges as a strong option

One of the names on Barcelona’s shortlist is Joao Pedro, who has impressed since joining Chelsea FC. The Brazilian forward has enjoyed a productive season, scoring 19 goals across competitions and showing versatility in attack. His ability to adapt and deliver consistently, even during Chelsea’s inconsistent campaign, has reportedly caught Barcelona’s attention.

Another familiar name back in the mix is Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan. Barcelona have tracked Martinez for years, and the striker himself has previously admitted he came close to joining the club in 2020.

With Robert Lewandowski nearing the latter stages of his career, Barcelona are actively planning for the future. Martinez’s experience, goal-scoring record and familiarity with high-pressure environments make him a strong candidate if the Alvarez move does not materialise.
