In a significant crackdown, the Delhi Police has uncovered an interstate drug trafficking network operating between Bareilly and the National Capital Region, seizing nearly half a kilogram of high-grade cocaine valued at around ₹5 crore. The operation, led by the Crime Branch, has so far resulted in the arrest of two individuals and exposed a wider supply chain believed to be catering to high-end consumers in Delhi-NCR.
Courier interception leads to breakthrough
According to The Pioneer, the case began with intelligence inputs tracked by the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch. Acting on this, police laid a trap near the Gazipur Roundabout on April 10 and intercepted a suspected courier, Javed Hussain, a resident of Bareilly. A search led to the recovery of 456 grams of premium-quality cocaine from his possession.
Officials said the quantity and purity of the drug indicated it was meant for upscale distribution networks rather than street-level peddling. A case was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and the accused was taken into custody for further questioning.
Supply chain traced to Uttar Pradesh
During interrogation, Hussain revealed that the consignment had been sourced from another individual based in Bareilly. Following this lead, a Crime Branch team, in coordination with local police, conducted a raid on April 22 and arrested the alleged supplier, Soib Khan.
Investigators say this arrest confirmed that the courier was part of a structured trafficking network rather than acting alone. The syndicate is suspected to have been using low-profile carriers to transport expensive narcotics discreetly into Delhi, where the drugs could fetch significantly higher prices.

Focus shifts to wider network
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Aditya Gautam, the arrests point to a larger organised racket. Police are now working to identify financiers, handlers and intended buyers linked to the operation. The quality of the seized cocaine has also raised suspicions that the supply was aimed at elite party circuits and high-paying users.

Both accused reportedly come from modest backgrounds and had no major criminal history, suggesting they may have been recently recruited into the network. With further raids underway, authorities believe the case could unravel a broader interstate narcotics corridor extending beyond Uttar Pradesh.
