Mohun Bagan SG began a new chapter under Sergio Lobera's guidance on Thursday. After arriving in the city late Tuesday night, Lobera held his first meeting with the entire team on Wednesday. From Thursday morning, Mohun Bagan's new Spanish coach took to the field with Jason Cummings and the squad. On the first day of practice, Lobera thoroughly assessed the footballers, trying to understand each player's strengths and weaknesses.
The Messi buzz in Mohun Bagan
However, a different name was at the center of discussion at the green-maroon brigade's practice session - Lionel Messi. The excitement among Mohun Bagan footballers surrounding the Argentine legend was palpable. The football star will be staying at the same team hotel as Mohun Bagan. His much anticipated presence at the luxurious hotel next to the Yuva Bharati stadium has cast an invisible spell throughout. Mohun Bagan's players are floating in that enchantment. They are eagerly hoping to catch a glimpse of Messi. Jason Cummings openly said, "It would be great if we could meet Messi face to face."

Despite the excitement surrounding Messi, Mohun Bagan footballers did not stray from rigorous practice. Wednesday's meeting included detailed discussions about the team's future strategy. Before starting practice on Thursday, Sergio Lobera spoke with the footballers for a long time, trying to understand their mental preparation. During practice, Lobera was seen holding a small piece of paper, instantly bringing back memories of the Molina era. He probably noted down the players' strengths and weaknesses on that paper. Though the first day was mainly fitness training, ball practice was also conducted later.

However, not everyone was present at practice. Liston Colaco was on leave for his wedding, Apuia couldn't take the field due to fever, and Sahal took personal leave. The rest of the footballers were present, though. According to sources, Lobera has given a stern message that players must give their best in every match.
