Amazon has introduced a new Video Recaps feature for Prime Video users. This feature is now in beta for some Prime Originals and is made to help viewers remember what happened before starting a new season of their favourite show.
Video Recaps use AI to pick out the most important moments from a show, then create a short video summary using clips, voice narration, bits of dialogue, and music. This feature comes after Prime Video launched X-Ray Recaps in 2024, another AI tool that gives spoiler-free text summaries of key plot points and character moments.

Gerard Medioni, VP of technology at Prime Video, said: “Video Recaps marks a groundbreaking application of generative AI for streaming. This first-of-its-kind feature demonstrates Prime Video’s ongoing commitment to innovation and making the viewing experience more accessible and enjoyable for customers.”

Amazon has already started rolling out this feature in the US. It is available in beta on selected English-language Prime Original shows like Fallout, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Upload, Bosch, and The Rig. Users can watch these recaps on their living room devices. More devices will support the feature soon. Video Recaps are available only on Prime Video and are part of Amazon’s growing set of AI tools made to improve the streaming experience.
How does it work?
When a user moves to the next season of a supported series, a recap button will show up on the show's detail page.

After clicking it, users can watch any available recap for that show, including video recaps or text-based ones like X-Ray Recaps. They can choose whichever format they prefer.
Each video recap is made in a few steps. The AI checks the main story points and character journeys from the season to understand which moments are important before viewers start the next season. Then the AI picks suitable video clips and adds audio, dialogue, and music. All these are combined with AI-made voiceover to create a smooth and clear recap video.
