Using WhatsApp while driving is set to become simpler and more seamless with a new integration into Apple CarPlay. The update allows users to access chats, make calls and view contacts directly from their car's infotainment screen, reducing reliance on handheld devices.
Earlier, interaction with WhatsApp while driving was largely limited to voice assistants like Siri. While functional, the controls were restricted. The latest version introduces a more complete interface designed specifically for in-car use.

A redesigned in-car experience
This new version of WhatsApp has been designed specifically for use within a car environment. Previously, users could listen to or send messages via voice assistants like Siri, but the level of control was quite limited, per Newspoint.
With the new update, WhatsApp now appears directly on the car's display when an iPhone connects to CarPlay. Users can navigate recent chats, check favourite contacts and manage calls through a cleaner, more accessible interface.
How the feature works
Once connected, WhatsApp becomes available on the infotainment screen. Users can view recent conversations, access call history and reach contacts with ease. Messages can still be sent using voice commands, ensuring minimal distraction.
However, full chat threads cannot be opened while the vehicle is in motion. This restriction is designed to keep the driver's focus on the road while still allowing essential communication.
Key features and interface changes
The update introduces a simplified layout aimed at quick interactions. A dedicated "Favorite Contacts" section lets users reach important contacts instantly. Call history, including incoming and outgoing calls, is also easy to access.

Additional features include contact profiles and a Quick Call option, allowing users to place calls with minimal effort. The interface has been structured to prioritise clarity and reduce unnecessary on-screen clutter.
The integration is expected to benefit both drivers and passengers. Drivers can stay connected without handling their phones, helping maintain attention on the road. Passengers, meanwhile, can use the system to make calls or send quick messages during journeys.
