Microsoft has confirmed that it will discontinue its lightweight email application, Outlook Lite, on May 25, 2026. This decision represents the last stage in the process of retirement of the application that used to run only on budget Android smartphones and devices operating in poor network connectivity conditions.
After the deadline mentioned above, the app will cease to function as a tool for accessing emails, meaning that no further use will be possible from this application.

What changes for existing users
Users will still be able to open the app on their devices, but core features such as viewing emails, managing inboxes, or accessing attachments will no longer work.
Microsoft had already signalled the transition by removing the app from new downloads in late 2025. The confirmed shutdown date now requires existing users to migrate to continue uninterrupted access.
Anyone currently relying on Outlook Lite for daily communication will be directly affected once services are disabled.
Shift towards unified Outlook experience
Outlook Lite has been developed by Microsoft as a simplified version of their primary mobile email service – Outlook Mobile. This change in strategy enables users to benefit from greater compatibility, enhanced security and better integration with Microsoft 365.
However, Microsoft is no longer interested in providing separate apps for different purposes and audiences.

How to migrate before the deadline
Microsoft has advised users to switch to Outlook Mobile before May 25 to avoid disruption.
Users can upgrade directly through prompts within Outlook Lite or download the main app from the Google Play Store. Signing in with the same account will automatically sync emails, calendar events, and attachments.
The company has assured that user data remains safe and will carry over seamlessly during the transition.
