Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated further and are no longer confined to diplomacy but have now morphed into an online war with a sharp exchange of memes and mockery. A series of posts from different Iranian embassies has drawn global attention, blending satire with criticism while referencing statements made by US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Embassy post highlights delay in talks

On April 21, the Iranian embassy in Indonesia shared a meme-style post aimed at the ongoing uncertainty around diplomatic talks. The post featured US Vice President JD Vance in a staged sequence of images.

In the visuals, a man is seen standing alone in a vast yellow flower field, repeatedly checking his watch and looking around as if waiting. As the sequence progresses, he sits down and eventually lies flat, suggesting exhaustion from a long wait. The caption read, “Waiting for negotiations like…,” hinting that discussions may be delayed or unlikely to happen soon.

This comes amid a backdrop of stalled engagement. The White House had earlier indicated that after the president chose to extend the ceasefire period and wait for Iran’s response, JD Vance would no longer travel to Pakistan for talks. No further clarity was offered regarding possible in-person meetings.

Ghana embassy flags ‘mixed signals’

Another post, shared the same day by Iran’s embassy in Ghana, pointed to what it described as contradictory messaging from Washington. The statement read, “In 24 hours, the President of the United States has: — Thanked Iran for closure of Hormuz. — Threatened Iran. — Blamed China. — Praised China. — Declared the blockade a success. — Confirmed Iran restocked through it. — Promised a deal with Iran. — Promised bombs will fall on Iran. A group chat where every member is named Trump."

Earlier posts add to diplomatic friction

The online exchanges follow earlier remarks from Iranian missions that had already escalated tensions. The embassy in South Africa reacted sharply to a claim related to a maritime audio clip, stating, “You idiot, he meant your Idiot President, Trump. Just Google ‘idiot’—you’ll understand who it is."

This came during heightened discussion around the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil route, where Iran had asserted control and warned of possible restrictions.

Other embassies joined in with similar tones. The Iranian mission in Zimbabwe posted sarcastic suggestions directed at Trump, including, “Turn off the phone, relax, no more posts and, and block Bibi for one week; 4. Eat a light dinner and sleep well." Another addition read, “5-Book an appointment with a qualified psychiatrist."

In a separate remark, the embassy questioned US intent, writing, “Hey Uncle Sam! Why don’t you make up your mind? Do you want to have the Strait open or make it closed again?!"
