Lionel Messi’s visit to India recently marked front pages not only because of its cultural and humanitarian importance. Lionel Messi’s presence at Vantara, or rather his time at this wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation centre founded by Anant Ambani, involved one remarkable moment of luxury, one that is currently observed as the most popular topic on this excursion.

One unusual timepiece that hijacked the limelight

While on a visit to Vantara, Messi was spotted sporting an extremely rare timepiece called the Richard Mille RM003-V2 GMT Tourbillon “Asia Edition.” This saw many people observe that Messi had not worn any watch to the event and had later put on the rare timepiece. It was reported to have been given to him by Anant Ambani.

The RM 003-V2 ‘Asia Edition’ is a collector’s dream, with only 12 pieces made worldwide. The watch, with a black carbon case and a skeleton dial, was priced at USD 1.2 million, with a value of about ₹10.91 crore. This act has received widespread attention, showcasing how well-acquainted Messi is with Anant Ambani.

Adding to the excitement of this moment, Anant Ambani was seen wearing the Richard Mille RM 056 Sapphire Tourbillon watch, which is one of the most exclusive timepieces that has ever been made. This exclusive watch is worth USD 5 million, which translates to about Rs 45.59 crores.

However, what happened behind the glamour of luxury also held strong cultural and spiritual undertones when Messi visited Vantara. In line with the customs of Sanatana Dharma practised within the facility, before embarking on his tour, Messi underwent normal Hindu rituals. He was received to the beat of traditional music and accompanied by a shower of flowers and an ‘Aarti,’ along with his teammates, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul of Inter Miami.

Later, Messi performed Maha Aarti and prayed through Ambe Mata Puja, Ganesh Puja, Hanuman Pooja, and Shiv Abhishek.

Conservation efforts, compassion, and a riveting encounter

The Argentine legend then went on to explore Vantara’s vast conservation system, engaging with lions, leopards, tigers, elephants, herbivores, and reptiles, getting state-of-the-art veterinary treatment. The highlight experience was at the Elephant Care Centre, where Messi participated in a football-enriched program with Maniklal, a rescued elephant calf. In a symbolic gesture, Anant and Radhika Ambani have named a lion cub ‘Lionel’ after the football great, symbolising hope. Praise also came from Messi, who said that the work done by Vantara, rescuing and rehabilitating, is “truly beautiful” and is an experience he will cherish forever.
