Video of suspect in Brown University shooting released, FBI announces $50,000 reward for information

The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information regarding the suspect of the shooting at Brown University, Rhode Island. Anyone with information about the suspect has been requested to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov, or the Providence Police Department.

The attacker in the armed assault at Brown University in the United States is still at large. The FBI has released a new video timeline of the attack and some clearer images after reviewing CCTV footage afresh in search of the suspect. Investigators have also announced a substantial reward to catch hold of the subject.

What reward has been announced?

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced a $50,000 reward for information regarding the suspect. Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts has been requested to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov, or the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121. According to the FBI, the suspect is approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall (173 centimeters).

What does the new footage show?

As per new footage, a person was seen near the university after 2 PM local time on Saturday, wearing black clothing similar to what the university attacker was wearing. About an hour later, a person in black clothing was seen walking along the sidewalk of streets just a few blocks away from the Brown University engineering building, where the shooting took place.

Meanwhile, investigators are searching houses, yards, and garbage bins in Providence for clues. Earlier, two people were detained after matching the footage, but investigators later released them upon realising that they were mistakenly taken in. Despite receiving at least 200 tips so far, investigators have not been able to arrest anyone. The sleuths have also instructed locals to check their home CCTV footage.

The shooting at Brown University

Brown University was attacked by a gunman on December 13, 2025, on the second day of the fall semester final examination week. The gunman entered the school, and the mass shooting took the lives of two students and injured another nine. The shooting has been recorded as the worst mass murder incident in the history of the state of Rhode Island.

The deceased were identified as Ella Cook, a parishioner at the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama, who served as vice president of Brown University’s College Republicans, and the second victim was Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, a recent graduate, who came to the United States from Uzbekistan as a child.

Eight of the nine wounded remain hospitalised, as the manhunt goes on.
