World’s richest man, Elon Musk is known for ambitions so vast that even the phrase “the sky is the limit” seems inadequate. However, this time the billionaire might be planning something different once again. At least, that's what his latest post has implied. Earlier in 2022, Musk posted a series of polls on the social media platform Twitter regarding the acquisition of the platform. Later on, he went on to buy Twitter and named the platform X.

This time, he has posted on X(formerly Twitter) asking whether he should buy the Irish airline Ryanair.

Musk posted the question on his X handle, triggering widespread discussion. Ryanair is an ultra-low-cost airline based in Ireland that operates flights across multiple European countries. In the post, Musk asked his followers and other X users to vote on whether he should buy the airline. By the night of January 19, 77 per cent of those who voted had supported the idea.

Dispute with Ryanair CEO sparks controversy

The post comes amid a public dispute between Elon Musk and Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary. Recently, Musk lashed out at O’Leary, alleging that the airline is not being run properly under his leadership.

The disagreement began over Starlink, Musk’s satellite internet service. A few days ago, Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary announced that Starlink internet services would not be installed on Ryanair aircraft. Following that announcement, Musk publicly criticised the airline’s leadership, escalating the conflict.

Musk’s history of public polls before decisions

This is not the first time Musk has used X to seek public opinion before making business or strategic decisions. In 2022, ahead of buying Twitter (now X), Musk conducted multiple polls on the platform, including on operational matters.

Earlier, in 2021, he had asked users whether he should sell 10 per cent of his Tesla stock. After acquiring X, Musk took on the role of CEO but later faced widespread protests over several issues. In December 2022, he again turned to X users, asking whether he should step down as CEO and stating he would follow the result. About 57 per cent voted in favour of his resignation, and Musk stepped down in 2023.

After purchasing Twitter, Musk has also sought opinions through X posts on reinstating Donald Trump’s banned account and on the idea of forming a new political party.
