Elon Musk, the world's richest person, has sparked a wave of reactions online after he took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on money and happiness.

In his post on February 5, the billionaire shared, "Whoever said 'money can't buy happiness' really knew what they were talking about." The statement was followed by a sad emoji. His post soon gained traction and attracted a slew of philosophical and sarcastic comments from people all over the world.

At the time of publishing, his post had more than 28 million views and over 55,000 comments.

How did social media react?

The tweet received several comments with some people jokingly asking Musk to send them money to better understand his point of view.

While one person asked, "So you’re not happy?", another said, "Money helps with life, but Jesus gives life meaning, peace, and hope."

One user offered their "two cents" and wrote, "A lot of happiness comes from helping others. You have helped millions, and someday it will likely be billions. You just need to appreciate what you have accomplished for so many.

Happiness can also be found in a long-term relationship with someone really special. It is time for you to find that someone for the long term. Just my two cents."

Another person asked, "If you're not happy, what hope do we have?"

A user jokingly said, "So true money doesnt matter at all you should give me $10million dollars." Another added by saying, "Give me $1B first let me also confirm for myself."

One user wrote, "Money doesn't buy happiness. It buys freedom from the things that make you miserable. There's a difference, and only people who've had both poverty and wealth understand it. The saying exists to console the poor, not to describe reality."

One user shared an image showing Musk's net worth at 852.5 billion USD and wrote, "All i need is that .5 bro."

"Who needs happiness when you can buy Mars," said another.

One user prayed for his well-being and said, "Whatever you are going through, it shall be well Big Bro."

Several other users shared memes and laughed while many sympathised with the billionaire as they flooded the comments section.

Musk becomes first person on planet worth 800 billion dollars

On February 3, Forbes reported Elon Musk becoming the first ever person ever worth 800 billion dollars or more after SpaceX acquired his artificial intelligence and social media company xAI. Forbes estimates that the deal, which values the combined company at 1.25 trillion dollars, boosted Musk's fortune by 84 billion dollars, to a record 852 billion dollars.

Before the deal, Musk held an estimated 42 per cent stake in SpaceX valued at 336 billion dollars. This was based on a tender offer from December that priced the private rocket company at 800 billion dollars. He also owned an estimated 49 per cent stake in xAI worth 122 billion dollars, according to a private fundraising round that valued the company at 250 billion dollars earlier this month.

After the merger, which valued SpaceX at 1 trillion dollars and xAI at 250 billion dollars, Forbes estimates that Musk now has a 43 per cent stake in the combined company valued at 542 billion dollars.
