BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday campaigned in Alipurduar and called for support for party candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections, promising action against corruption and improvements in the tea garden economy.
Addressing a public meeting in Sonapur in North Bengal, Nabin outlined the party's agenda ahead of the first phase of polling, which covers the Dooars and tea belt - areas considered crucial for the BJP.
Focus on corruption and governance
During his speech, Nabin targeted the ruling Trinamool Congress over alleged corruption in jobs in the state. Several leaders had been arrested earlier in connection with these cases and were later granted bail.
Nabin said the BJP would take strict action if voted to power. He stated that those involved in corruption would be identified and punished, and assured a transparent recruitment process.

He also criticised the state government over law and order issues and raised concerns related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He said, "Names of infiltrators have been removed through SIR. Mamata Banerjee went to Delhi for them. But when atrocities were committed against women in the state, no action was taken."
Promises on tea gardens and development
The BJP leader also focused on the condition of tea garden workers in North Bengal. He alleged that the sector had deteriorated under the current government and promised improvements if the BJP forms the government.
Nabin said the party would work to restore the tea garden economy, improve infrastructure, and increase daily wages for workers. He added that the BJP would aim to replicate developments seen in Assam.

Highlighting central initiatives, he referred to projects such as the Vande Bharat Express and the inclusion of railway stations under the Amrit Bharat scheme as examples of the Union government's commitment to West Bengal.
He also expressed confidence about the party's electoral prospects. He said, "There will be Holi in West Bengal on May 4. It will be 'Bhagwa Holi'. This will be a fight for justice. Votes will go to the BJP on both days, and this government will bid farewell."
The remarks come as political parties intensify campaigning in North Bengal ahead of the first phase of elections.
