Amid the SIR hearings in the state, another BLO death incident has occurred. The incident took place on Wednesday morning in the Fulbari Pakurtala area of Ingrajbazar municipality in Malda district. The deceased has been identified as Samprita Chowdhury Sanyal (48). She was working as an ICDS worker. She was the BLO of booth number 163 in ward number 15 of the Ingrajbazar municipality area.

Samprita's husband, Ardhendhu Chowdhury, alleged that Samprita had been ill for several days due to the pressure of SIR work. The doctor had advised her to take a rest.

However, due to work pressure, she did not get much opportunity to rest. She was suffering from a cold. Taking everything together, Samprita became more ill late Tuesday night. She was given a nebuliser. But when that did not work, an attempt was made to take her to a nursing home in the morning. However, she died before being taken to the nursing home.

Upon receiving news of the BLO's death, ward number 15 councillor Gayatri Ghosh went to her house. She said, 'Samprita had been ill since December 30. She had gone to a nursing home and consulted a doctor. The doctor had informed that she had developed an infection due to a cold. She was given medicine and sent home.' The councillor informed that the BLO could not sleep at night. Papers would be scattered on the bed. The councillor also alleged that the BLO's death occurred due to additional pressure from the Election Commission.

BJP's South Malda organisational district president Ajay Gangopadhyay gave a counter-response. He stated that any death is unfortunate. However, blaming the Election Commission entirely for BLO deaths would not be right. Trinamool leadership is also creating pressure on BLOs. As a result, these problems are arising. He demanded an investigation into the incident.

Incidentally, a few days ago, a BLO named Ashis Dhar (45) of booth number 103 in Baneshwar gram panchayat of Cooch Behar had died. The family alleged that he had died of a heart attack due to intense pressure during the SIR hearings.
