Ahead of polling in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday issued a strong warning to alleged "miscreants" and syndicate operators, asking them to surrender at police stations before the election results are declared on May 4. He made the remarks while addressing rallies in Barjora in Bankura and later in Purulia.
The Prime Minister said that if such individuals do not surrender voluntarily, strict action would follow if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in the state. He also expressed confidence that the BJP would form the next government in West Bengal.
Warning to 'syndicates' before polls
Speaking at the rally in Bankura, Modi intensified his criticism of the ruling Trinamool Congress, accusing it of fostering "syndicate raj" and "mafia rule" in the state. He urged those allegedly involved in such activities to surrender before specific dates.
"I am telling all syndicates and goons for the last time to surrender at your respective police stations before April 29. It would be better if you do it before April 23. After May 4, no one will be able to survive," he said.

He further added that people of Bengal were determined to bring change. "The people of Bengal are the real strength. They are angry and no longer willing to tolerate this government," he said.
Modi also referred to illegal activities such as coal smuggling and warned that such practices would not continue if the BJP assumes power.
Attack on Trinamool, promise of 'accountability'
Continuing his attack, Modi said that the BJP would ensure "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" along with "Sabka Hisab" if elected. He reiterated that every individual allegedly involved in corruption or unlawful activities would be identified.

At a separate rally in Purulia, he repeated similar allegations. "Syndicates and goons have occupied many sectors. Once the BJP comes to power, we will free everything and identify each person involved," he said.
The Prime Minister also claimed that even leaders within the Trinamool Congress were aware of an impending defeat. "The era of fear is ending. A government based on trust will come. The language used by some leaders reflects their fear," he said.
Polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections is scheduled in phases, with results to be declared on May 4.
