The Election Commission on Friday published the revised electoral rolls for West Bengal following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process ordered in line with directions from the Supreme Court. The list contains around 7.08 crore voter names, including nearly 60 lakh entries currently marked as “Under Adjudication”, according to Election Commission sources.

Officials said the roll released on February 28 is part of an ongoing verification exercise. Judicial officers deputed by the Calcutta High Court will continue examining entries flagged for discrepancies, and updates will be reflected in supplementary electoral lists in the coming weeks.

The publication of the rolls comes at a politically sensitive time as the state prepares for upcoming Assembly elections, with the poll schedule expected to be announced soon.

How voters can check their status

Voters can verify their names in the electoral roll through several official platforms. Once the list is published, it becomes available on the Election Commission of India website (eci.gov.in), the Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal website (ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in) and the ECI Net mobile application.

To check their status, voters need to enter their name or EPIC number (Voter ID number) on the portal. If the entry has been verified and accepted, the name will appear normally without any tag. If verification is still pending, the entry will appear with the label "Under Adjudication." Names removed from the list will carry the mark "Deleted."

District Election Officers have also made the list available through their official portals. For those who prefer offline verification, hard copies of the electoral rolls are available with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

Officials added that copies of the rolls have also been provided to representatives of recognised political parties and booth-level agents across districts.

What "Under Adjudication" means

If a voter’s name is marked as “Under Adjudication,” it indicates that the entry has been flagged for review due to data mismatches, duplication or other logical discrepancies detected during the revision exercise.

Such cases are being examined by district-level judicial officers assigned by the Calcutta High Court. Voters may be asked to produce original documents for verification if the records available with election authorities require clarification.

The Supreme Court has permitted the use of 13 specific documents as valid proof during the scrutiny process. These include identification and educational records such as Aadhaar cards, Class 10 certificates, and related documents used to establish identity and parentage, according to officials familiar with the process.

What to do if your name is missing

If a voter does not find their name in the roll, they can check the supplementary lists that will be released in phases. Individuals whose names have been deleted or omitted may apply again by submitting Form 6 through the Election Commission’s portal or by visiting their local election office.

Officials said adjudication will continue even after the publication of the February 28 list. Names cleared through judicial scrutiny will be added to updated rolls before the last date for nomination filing once the election schedule is announced.
