Kolkata Metro’s Green Line faced fresh safety concerns on Monday morning after a section of the ceiling collapsed outside Central Park Metro Station, raising alarm among commuters. The incident occurred around 7:30 am when a portion of the canopy fell onto the road beneath the elevated station. At the time, Green Line trains were operating in both directions overhead, while vehicular traffic was moving below.
Police quickly cordoned off the affected area after the collapse came to light, and metro authorities were informed immediately. Though no injuries were reported, the incident triggered widespread concern and renewed apprehension among passengers regarding the safety of the newly constructed stretch.
Sources in the Metro Rail Authority said the General Manager, along with other senior officials, visited the site to assess the situation. Metro engineers are currently examining how the structural failure occurred.
The collapse has once again put the spotlight on recurring infrastructural issues plaguing the Kolkata Metro.
