Allegations have been made that the eyes of a deceased youth, brought for post-mortem at Barasat Medical College, were gouged out. The hospital premises turned tense. On Tuesday, November 25, while returning from a rally in Bongaon, the youth’s family members stopped the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s car on Jessore Road.
They demanded punishment for the culprits. This incident took place on the national highway in front of the gate of Barasat Bonmali Pur Hospital. After hearing all the allegations, Mamata Banerjee assured and has ordered a proper investigation.

What exactly is the complaint of the young man's family?
Pritam Ghosh (34), a resident of Barasat, was seriously injured after being hit by a car while crossing the road on Monday morning. The accident took place in Kazipara, Barasat. He was rescued by the police and admitted to Barasat Medical College and Hospital. But the doctor declared him dead. After this, his autopsy was done at the hospital concerned.
On Tuesday, when the body of the young man was handed over to the hospital, the family alleged that Pritam's eyes, who had an accident, were fine when they were brought to the hospital. But when the body was being handed over to them, the young man's eyes were not there. The family members alleged that the eyes of the deceased Pritam, had been stolen. The family of Pritam was targeting Barasat Medical College and Hospital.
Keeping this allegation in mind, they started protesting in front of the hospital on Tuesday morning. They also refused to take the body.
Complaint to the Chief Minister
On this day, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's convoy was stopped by the family members of the deceased youth while she was returning from a meeting in Bangaon. They alleged that Pritam's eyes were stolen right in the hospital. On this day, the Chief Minister listened to all the complaints of Pritam's family. After this, she ordered the police and the hospital to conduct a proper investigation.
Mamata Banerjee said she would take three steps in the wake of the incident. The Chief Minister said that if anyone has done wrong, they will be punished. She has ordered an investigation into the incident. The CCTV camera footage will be examined. The Chief Minister assured the family of the young man of financial assistance and his mother of a job from her own quota. After talking to the family for about 15 minutes, she left the scene. It is learned that Pritam got married a year ago. He has a 12-day-old child.
What are the hospital authorities saying?
In this context, Dr. Abhijit Saha, MSVP of Barasat Medical College and Hospital, said, "The family members came to me with the complaint. I asked them to submit a written complaint. I had already informed the family that we would form an investigation committee based on that. After that, they protested in front of the Chief Minister's convoy. We will work as per the instructions given by Mamata Banerjee. The investigation committee will be formed soon."
