The weather pattern across West Bengal continues to remain sharply divided. While several districts in North Bengal are preparing for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, residents in South Bengal are likely to struggle with increasing heat and sticky weather conditions over the next few days.

According to the weather department, moisture-laden winds are rapidly moving towards North Bengal due to a strong latitudinal pull. As a result, multiple districts in the northern part of the state have been placed under a heavy rainfall alert.

Kolkata likely to witness hotter days ahead

Kolkata woke up to a mix of sunshine and cloudy skies on Tuesday morning. However, meteorologists have indicated that the intensity of the sun is expected to rise as the day progresses, making outdoor conditions increasingly uncomfortable for commuters and pedestrians.

The weather department has stated that there is currently no possibility of heavy rainfall in the city. In the absence of widespread rain activity, temperatures in Kolkata are expected to climb gradually over the coming days.

On Tuesday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 26.3 degrees Celsius, which was 0.7 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature settled at 34.0 degrees Celsius, around 1.8 degrees below the seasonal average.

Humidity discomfort to increase across South Bengal

There is little relief in sight for residents of South Bengal. Weather officials have forecast that conditions will turn drier from Tuesday onward, reducing the chances of thunderstorms across the region till at least Saturday.

With rainfall activity remaining limited, humidity levels are expected to rise significantly. Several districts in South Bengal may witness a temperature increase of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius by Friday, further intensifying discomfort during daytime hours.

The combination of high humidity and rising temperatures could make weather conditions feel more oppressive despite the absence of heatwave warnings.

Heavy rain alert issued in North Bengal

In contrast, North Bengal is likely to remain under the influence of active rain-bearing systems. Heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar.

These districts are expected to receive spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph.

The weather department has also warned that heavy rain activity may continue on Wednesday and Thursday. Along with the five districts already under alert, North Dinajpur is also likely to witness intense rainfall during this period.
