The Cannes Film Festival may not officially begin until later this week, but social media is already debating one major absence — Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Beauty giant L'Oréal Paris recently unveiled its annual Cannes-themed facade at the iconic Hôtel Martinez, featuring several of its global ambassadors, including Alia Bhatt, Viola Davis, Helen Mirren and Eva Longoria.

Nevertheless, it did not take much time for the audience to realise that the face of the model, who had been one of the oldest brand ambassadors of the company and one of the most recognisable Indians in the Cannes event, was nowhere to be found in the promotional material.

Social media erupts over Aishwarya’s absence

Soon after the campaign video was released, comment sections across social media platforms were flooded with reactions from fans expressing disappointment.

Several users argued that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has played a defining role in shaping L’Oréal Paris’ visibility in India and across international red carpets over the past two decades.



One user wrote, “New faces may come, but you can’t replace the OG.”

Another commented, “Where is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan?” while others described the omission as surprising given her legacy at Cannes.

Some fans also pointed out that Aishwarya’s Cannes appearances have consistently generated major international attention, especially in India, where her red carpet looks have often dominated entertainment coverage.

The backlash intensified further as users compared her absence to the inclusion of newer ambassadors associated with the brand.
