Preparations for the West Bengal Day celebrations in Tarakeswar have reached the final stage. The main programme is scheduled to be held on June 20 at Baligari Ground near Tarakeswar-Baidyabati Road No. 12, where workers and officials have been racing against time to complete arrangements.
On Friday, state Public Health and Technical Education Minister Ajay Kumar Poddar, MLAs Santu Pan and Dipanjan Guha, along with other public representatives and district administration officials, inspected the venue and reviewed the progress of the work.
Five large hangars have been erected on the ground, while a helipad has also been constructed nearby. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and several ministers and senior officials are expected to attend the programme.

Floral decor featuring flowers from India and abroad
The main stage is being decked up with an elaborate floral display. Anthuriums have been brought from Thailand, while gerberas and lilies have arrived from Ooty in Tamil Nadu. Several other varieties of flowers sourced from different parts of the country are also being used for decoration.
A team of 26 floral artists from Tamluk has been working on the venue for the past few days to complete the arrangements.
Ei Samay Online Floral artist Ekadashi Samanta said, "This is the first major event by the Prime Minister in the state since the political change of 2026. We have come here to handle the floral decorations and are delighted to be part of it."
Another artist, Ratan Mallick, said, "We have come from Tamluk. We are decorating the stage with a variety of flowers. Since there is a new government, the arrangements are being made specially."
Bengal’s cultural heritage showcased across venue
Apart from the floral arrangements, the venue has been adorned with visual representations of Bengal’s culture and heritage. Images of Kolkata’s iconic yellow taxis, hand-pulled rickshaws, Dakshineswar Temple, Belur Math and traditional clay artisans have been placed around the grounds.
Several displays highlighting Bengal’s art forms and cultural traditions have also been installed around the venue.
The stage itself carries a saffron-themed design. Besides the main stage area, four additional hangars have been set up, taking the total number to five.
Heavy rain since Friday morning has created challenges for workers as parts of the venue have become waterlogged. Efforts to drain out the accumulated water began immediately.
Ei Samay Online Security checks are also underway, with metal detectors being used across the venue. Chandannagar MLA Dipanjan Guha said, "Officials from the Public Works Department, Electricity Department, Fire Services and other departments are working continuously. Pumps have been installed to remove water. Sand, stone chips and sandbags are being brought in. Everyone is working day and night."
Over two lakh people expected to attend
Despite the weather-related hurdles, organisers remain confident about completing the preparations on time. MLA Santu Pan said, "Challenges are there and will continue to be there. But we know how to overcome them. More than two lakh people are expected to attend."
According to the organisers, more than two lakh people are expected to gather in Tarakeswar for the June 20 event.
