The monsoon may have officially entered South Bengal, but the rains are yet to make their presence felt. Instead, residents across Kolkata and nearby districts are battling sticky humidity and rising discomfort. With the city waking up to cloudy skies on Sunday, all eyes are now on the IMD forecast that points to possible thunderstorms and rain later in the day.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several districts in South Bengal could witness scattered thunderstorms accompanied by rain on Sunday. There is also a possibility of Kalbaisakhi activity in some areas.

Kolkata eyes evening thunderstorms
Kolkata began the day under overcast skies, but rainfall had not been reported during the morning hours. The lack of rain, coupled with humidity, has added to the discomfort of commuters and residents across the city.

On Sunday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this time of the year. The maximum temperature stood at 35.3 degrees Celsius, around 0.8 degrees above the seasonal average.
These South Bengal districts may receive rain today
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with rain in several districts, including Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman and Hooghly.
Along with rainfall, gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph may affect these areas.
Weather officials have also indicated that scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue across the districts of South Bengal through the coming week.

While South Bengal waits for sustained monsoon showers, North Bengal is expected to receive significant rainfall over the next two days.
The IMD has warned of very heavy rain in parts of the region during the next 48 hours. Moderate to heavy showers are likely to continue through the week.
