The weather added a touch of winter charm to Saraswati Puja celebrations in Kolkata. On Thursday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of around 15 degrees Celsius. Many people were disappointed ahead of the puja, fearing that winter had already said goodbye.

However, the weather took a U-turn on Friday morning. The minimum temperature dropped further to around 14 degrees Celsius, bringing back a familiar winter chill. As a result, many stepped out wrapped in sweaters while heading out to offer anjali, a sight that had been missing in recent days.

According to meteorologists, the brief return of cold weather has provided some relief, though it may not last for long. While mornings are expected to remain slightly cool, daytime temperatures in Kolkata are likely to see a gradual rise. This means warmer afternoons even as early hours continue to carry a hint of winter for the next few days.

On this day, Kolkata's minimum temperature was 14.5 degrees Celsius, which is 0.4 degrees Celsius higher than normal. Yesterday's maximum temperature was 25.8 degrees Celsius. On Friday, the humidity in Kolkata's air was a maximum 90 percent and minimum 40 percent. There is no possibility of major temperature changes in the next three days.

However, the possibility of mercury dropping significantly again is low, according to weather department sources.

For now, there is no possibility of rain anywhere in North or South Bengal. While the cold will virtually disappear during the day in Kolkata and other districts, the cold sensation will persist in the morning and evening. Light to moderate fog is likely to occur in a few places in South Bengal for the next two days and in North Bengal for four days.
